PSA first came up with the concept of Automated Check-in machines, in 1977. They were discussed in PSA's 1977 annual report. (Unfortunately, few pictures are available of the early machines.)

PSA later upgraded the machines to handle seat assignments, boarding passes, and give you Executive Flyer credit, out of necessity in 1984. This 1984 flyer describes the new machines, only in place at PSA's most popular airports.
