Hugh N. "Woody" Wood
Passed December 6, 2009
Hugh Wood, one of the founders of PSA, was born in Long Beach on June 28, 1923. A Naval aviator during World War II, Woody went through the Plosser-Friedkin school to obtain his civilian licenses, and joined Kenny Friedkin as an instructor after graduation.
Woody became the sales department of PSA when the airline started, and remained as Vice President of Sales until 1967, when he left the airline. His work was instrumental to establishing the legitimacy of PSA when it first started, as well as creating many of the innovations PSA was known for, such as Instant Ticketing.
After PSA, Hugh became Executive Director of the National Alliance of Businessmen in San Diego. Woody and his wife Darlene also owned and operated two large cattle ranches in Northeastern Utah. Woody and Darlene moved to Murphys, CA in 1974.
Woody is survived by his wife Darlene, three daughters, six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
